One of Brave’s most prominent “characters” is undoubtedly that of DunBroch Castle, the home of Princess Merida (Kelly Macdonald) and her family.
As part of their research for the film, Brave’s creators travelled far from their San Francisco HQ to the Isle of Lewis in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, to visit the Callanish Standing Stones.

We continue our tour inspired by Disney Pixar’s Brave by visiting Ullapool before heading to the blackhouses of Arnol and Gearrannon on the Isle of Lewis.
My first Highland stop was at Urquhart Castle, just past the village of Drumnadrochit on the banks of Loch Ness, Scotland’s largest freshwater loch. The castle dates from the 13th Century and, although now in ruins, has had a turbulent history as various noblemen tried to gain ownership.
